Lakeview Historic District

Lakeview, or Lake View, is one of Chicago’s 77 Communities, but parts are also included as the Lakeview Historic District, named to the NPS Register of Historic Places in 1977 with a boundary expansion in 1986. Primarily in the southeast section of Lakeview, properties were constructed between 1899 and 1924.

Additional historic areas, acknowledged by the city of Chicago, include:

Alta Vista Terrace District A one-block-long street (1050W), between Grace (3800N) and Byron (3900N); 1900-1904; J.C. Brompton. (September 15, 1971).

Newport Avenue District One block of Newport Ave. between Halsted and Clark streets (1891-1928).

Oakdale Avenue District 800-block of Oakdale between Halsted St. and Mildred Ave (1890-1927).

Surf-Pine Grove District Predominantly 400- and 500-blocks of West Surf St. and 2800-block of N. Pine Grove Ave (1890-1928).

Terra Cotta Row District
Four buildings and decorative wall located at Oakdale and Seminary avenues (1887-1901).
