East Village Historic District
The East Village Historic District is located between Ukrainian Village and Noble Square in the West Town community and was added to the NPS Register of Historic Places in 2009.
Primarily founded by German immigrants who worked in the neighborhood, they purchased lots and built their own cottage style homes, usually of brick. They were constructed primarily between the 1800’s and 1920’s.
Most of the neighborhood is comprised of 2 and 3-flats (about 90% of the structures), of masonry construction, having raised entries and flat roofs decorated with cornices; many have limestone details. These multi-unit buildings can be found in several architectural styles, including Italianate, Romanesque, Queen Anne, and Eastlake.
